Light sources:
adding a third light source

third light

A third light source gives you the ability to create a perfectly balanced composition. Careful management of each light allows you to mould the subject through the interaction of highlight and shadow. Undesirable elements can be cloaked in shadow whilst areas of interest can be bathed in light. For portraits, different lights can be used to place equal emphasis on the eyes nose and mouth. Another light can be used to define the jaw line with shadow. In the example, three large source diffused lights are used, two using three quarter lighting on the left and right and the third shining down form the 11 o clock position. This configuration has produced highlights on both cheekbones with a high quality of light illuminating the central face area. The third light serves to remove most of the heavy shadow area on the face generated from the other two lights.
