Light sources: direct small source

direct small source

Direct sun is actually considered a small light source. Although it engulfs the earth with its size, the fact that it is over 93 million miles away reduces it to small source of light. This is mimicked in the studio with a single unobstructed light with a small concentrated focal point. Harsh shadows and removal of texture in the concentrated area are typical of this kind of light. The example shows a single light shining directly at the statue from the front, focussing on the face. The face area is almost completely washed out with harsh shadows revealing detail in the peripheral areas around the lights concentration.
