Light sources: back light

Backlighting would not generally be considered a prime source of lighting for classic composition, but for silhouettes, dramatic effect and any situation where detail is less important than mood it has great merit. Despite much of the subject being in shadow in the example, its contours are picking up light providing highlighted areas of interest. These areas add to the mystique as small visual clues offer hints as to the images form.
