I wrote my first book about Nine years ago, the only aspiration for it being that it would not end up as a doorstop. Thankfully, I could have set my aspirations a little higher, because it set me on a path to be commissioned to write Six more books to date, none of which to my knowledge are serving as doorstops.

Since then the books have been translated into Eight languages and this is enough to give any writer a warm glow inside.

Although I had been teaching for some time prior to writing the first book, I had no idea how difficult it would be to convey a simple instruction in prose, compared to simply stating it verbally, face to face. The scope for misinterpretation is enormous and I soon realised that far greater attention to detail is required from the writer than it is from the public speaker. Today it comes a little easier but the challenge still exists to be instructive, unambiguous and interesting at the same time.
